15 degrees. we have been dealing with them all week long. ijamsville at 14. so really bundle up and dress in layers for today. and then our next concern the snow as we go later into the afternoon. i am thinking around 3 or 1 western maryland and it will make its way off towards the west and this will filter in as we go throughout the day making the evening commute a nasty one. you saw what happened yesterday. as we look at abc2's most accurate planner we head into lunchtime and temperatures still cold coming in at 22 degrees. the high temperature for today right around 25. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook goodmorning. >> reporter: good morning. we are off to another cold start and dealing with a crash on 95in jessup but it's just been moved to the southbound shoulder at route 175. as we look live just north of the scene, on 95, at 195, you will notice traffic is moving along. you won't have problems heading from elk ridge to downtown baltimore. that stretch will take you the

normal 12 minutes. and as we look at the other abc2 time safer traffic -- timesaver traffic drive times no delays from the beltway down to fayette street. looking at an 11 minute ride there and on the beltway, conditions nice and clear on the west side just 8 minutes to travel the outer loop from 795 down to 70. that's a look at your morning commute. megan and charley over to you. >> two minutes after 5. and as you get ready to head out the door you may be wondering what's in store especially after yesterday. so little snow and so many people caught up in traffic. sherrie johnson join us live with more on the snowfallout and what to expect today. sherie. >> reporter: we are live in -- sherrie. >> reporter: we are live in brooklynville and traffic is not too bad right now but it could be a different story later this afternoon. the state highway administration says they are ready. they are prepared and while the snowfall was limited yesterday, it seemed the traffic tieups were endless and the maryland

stay highway adadministration says today could be a repeat performance. now wednesday night, temperatures were so low that crews couldn't pretreat the roads. add in a little sun glare a few accidents in key spots and late school openings and it proved to be a recipe for gridlock for commuters. the state warns the commute could be just as dicey if the snow hits as school lets out. >> my whole street was backed up. fen was on frederick avenue and -- everybody was on frederick avenue and it was stop and go traffic and it was school and kids trying to get to school. the state i think underestimated it. >> the main goal with the crews a after the precipitation stops we want to get to bear payment in four hours so people need to have realistic expectations when they go out. >> reporter: back out here live. state highway administration says they are going to be prepared for a possible -- for responsible snow and offers

tips. make sure you fill the gas tearchg up and allow your -- tank up and allow yourself he plenty of time heading to -- yourself plenty of time heading to your destination. have washer fluid on hand in case you have to sit there for a while. sherrie johnson, abc2 news. opening statements begin in the murder trial of phylicia barnes. michael johnson, the ex- boyfriend of phylicia's sister is on trial for the murder. after two days jurors were selected and dismissed so the court could argue legal motions in front of the judge. barnes is the from north carolina and disappeared while visiting her sift he for the holidays in 2010. her body was found in the susquehanna river a few months later. the defense begins arguments for the executive john leopold. the state rested in the misconduct trial. prosecutors wrapped up with testimony from officers paid oversim running errands for the county executive. the supervisor of the security detail requested the leave of the position because of the

thanks for joining ounce this friday morning. hundreds of people will take a dip in the chesapeake bay for a good cause. part of the annual polar bear plunge to raise money for the special olympics. and for the first time there's going to be two days of plunging. the maryland state police are hosting the corporate plunge challenge this afternoon about 20 companies raise money and they are going to run into the icy waters of the bay. tomorrow is the plunge fest 2013. it kicks off at sandy point park. 11 in the morning and goes all day long. mount washington in new hampshire is the highest peek in the northeast and is billed as the home of the world's worst weather. meteorologists tried to prove it at the mountain's owe observatory. these photographs show hot water being thrown in the air and it evaporating. they had a temperature of minus 35. these come to us from mount washington new hampshire. temperatures are frigid in the nation's capital. look at what the cold weather did to the outdoor fountain

this is the smithsonian national museum of the indian water fall. it looks like a crystal display but for us this is something we have to keep in mind because it could be dangerous for our pipes and plumbing. >> absolutely. >> you are right. that's why we are talking about keeping a little drip on. so they don't bust. now let's talk about what's going on in terms of the cold weather. this morning, it's still sticking around. it has a grip on us and won't let go. but i have good news in the seven-day forecast. we go into the up direction. but for this morning, we are still very frigid and glen rock coming in at 14 degrees so if you are traveling to york, be prepared for the cold weather to stick around. 15 degrees right now in bel air and it's 16 in catonsville. shadyside 17. more of the say in rock hall and easton is at 19. bundle up as you step out and about. now the satellite and radar, not bringing a whole lot to us right now. we are dealing with clouds and increasing as we go throughout the day. but the snow is back up off toward the north and west

around the midwest. this is an alberta clipper that will come through and it's going clip us. and lay down some light snow across the area. we do have that potential as we go to about 3:00 that's when i believe it will begin. but look what we have here. this is the scenario. we have the clipper up to the north. but then we have an area of low pressure that is going to form along a frontal boundary to the south. if those two happen to phase together we will see much more snow than indicated right now on this snow cast map. 1 to 2 inches if the clipper comes in and gets us and that's what we are thinking as of now. but still, there's always that chance for a little bit more. future trend not picking up on a whole lot right now. but then it begins to do it's things -- its thing friday at 3. today at 3 we can see it beginning to move through. but then the heaviest stuff comes in and just in time for your commute. so he around 5:00, 6, 7:00 it's going to be halt things so you want to take this into consideration as you head out and about this morning. we have the snow by 3:00 and 25

degrees. it's going to be cold day on tap once again but we can see that we are going up 35 degrees by sunday and then look at the 55 degrees on wednesday. let's check the traffic with lauren cook. >> reporter: hurry up wednesday. it's too cold out there. if you are heading out on 95, a crash is just moved to the shoulder of the southbound lanes of 175 and delays have dissipated. and in howard county 70 nice and clear many no problems traveling from columbia pike over to the beltway. or heading out westbound towards frederick no problems at all. 695 in pikesville at green spring avenue not too many cars out there. you won't have issues getting up to 83 or travel down to route 40. up in parkton here's a look at 83. here at york road, no problems whatsoever traveling from the maryland pennsylvania state line all the way down to the beltway. that's going to teak you 21 minutes. -- teak you 21 minutes. that's -- take you 21 minutes. now over to you.

and the snow is in the horizon and moving into here going into 3 and 4 and overspreading the area by 5 or 6:00. temperatures right now are the big story. we are still in the deep freeze. the temperatures 13 in millersville down into pylesville and we have a light wind now out of the southwest making it feel a little colder. we have a wind chill in millersville. talking about the single digits for today. so frigid is what i am going to call it when you wake up around 10 this morning. we are going to be around 19 degrees lunchtime temperatures coming in at 22. and those clouds will be on the increase today. and by 3:00 we will see some snow falling from the skies. let's check the abc2 timesaver traffic with lauren cook. >> reporter: good morning. we are off to a cold start and we are dealing with a crash on route 295. it's along the southbound lanes at 95. now if you are using 95 to get downtown, as we check in and take a live look here at 395, traffic is moving along. you won't experience any delays getting through the fort
